SCANSOURCE SECURITY PARTNERS WITH E-WASTE TO CREATE RECYCLING AND DISPOSAL PROGRAM
GREENVILLE, SC - April 21, 2010 - ScanSource Security, a wholly owned subsidiary of ScanSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCSC), and leading distributor of physical security solutions, has created a recycling and disposal program for Digital Video Recorder (DVR) products through a partnership with E-Waste, an end-of-life technology waste management company. As one of the only physical security distributors offering this service, ScanSource Security hopes to communicate the importance of disposing of products in a legally sound and environmentally responsible manner. The value-added distributor will provide this program to dealers and integrators at no charge for DVR products until the end of June and for a cost-effective fee thereafter. What’s more, dealers can utilize this service for other physical security products for a nominal fee.
In addition to containing potentially hazardous materials, such as lead, chromium, cadmium and other dangerous metals, technology equipment can also contain sensitive data components, which can create liabilities for the user related to personal and business security risks. By taking advantage of this service through ScanSource Security, dealers can dispose of the DVR products in a secure and environmentally friendly way with little to no in-house resources needed; the dealer or their customer simply fills out a form on the ScanSource Security web site for directions on where to send their product for disposal.
“By taking advantage of this service through ScanSource Security and E-Waste, dealers and integrators can provide even more value to their end-user customers by ensuring they are EPA compliant in their disposal processes and that all data is properly erased,” said Jim Cleveland, president and COO, E-Waste. “What’s more, a fully insured certificate of destruction and indemnification is issued to the dealer and/or their end-user customer by E-Waste.”
“Our goal is to help resellers focus on sales and customer service and provide new tools to strengthen their business and cultivate relationships with their end-user customers.” said Paul Constantine, vice president of merchandising, ScanSource Security. “This program is a great opportunity to help them stand out from the crowd, while also helping them foster good business practices."
ScanSource Security will hold a web seminar to further discuss the guidelines for the appropriate disposal of technology products on May 25th at 2 p.m. ET. To register, please visit http://bit.ly/ScanSourceRecycling
